Bankhaus Schelhammer & Schattera is Vienna’s oldest private banking institution.

The name goes back to Carl Schelhammer and Eduard Schattera who were the firm’s owners in the second half of the 19th century. The bank passed into the majority ownership of institutions of the Catholic Church in the middle of the 20th century when the church started issuing reconstruction bonds.

Institutions belonging to the Roman-Catholic Church of Austria own the majority stake of around 85% of the share capital. The majority shareholders include the Conference of Superiors of Male Religious Orders as well as convents, monasteries and dioceses in Austria.

The Schelhammer & Schattera investment management company was founded in 1988.

It is the leading specialist in Austria for investments in line with ethical and sustainability criteria, and the only investment management company in Austria that offers exclusively sustainable investment funds to private investors.

Sustainable funds are managed in accordance with stringent quality criteria under the brand name SUPERIOR and are available for all types of earnings and security goals.

The ethical fund SUPERIOR 3 was launched as early as in 1991. It is one of Austria’s first ethical funds and one of the largest of its kind in the German-speaking world.
